Business Incubation Support for Bamboo Sector Entrepreneurs under the Innovation Challenge Fund — funded by Swiss SDC, implemented by CNRS & iDE Bangladesh in Cox's Bazar.
Bangladesh ranks as the seventh most climate-vulnerable country and the impact of climate change further burdens the socioeconomic challenges of rural populations, including Rohingya refugees and host communities in Cox's Bazar. Bamboo plays a vital role in Bangladesh's forest ecosystem, biodiversity, and local livelihoods.
The B4CA project supports Bangladesh's Social Forestry initiative and works across the humanitarian and development nexus in market and value chain development to strengthen and sustain the targeted communities' ability to diversify income and market access.
GreenTech Foundation Bangladesh supports ICF-selected bamboo sector entrepreneurs with tailored business incubation services across these key areas:
Incubation of enterprises producing bamboo-based construction materials — treated poles, panels, flooring — for host community housing and refugee shelter in Cox's Bazar.
Supporting women-led micro-enterprises producing bamboo furniture, handicrafts, home goods, and eco-packaging — targeting domestic and export markets.
Value-added bamboo shoot processing enterprises — pickles, dried shoots, fresh supply chains — creating market linkage between growers and urban consumers.
Supporting grower associations in establishing bamboo plantations for carbon credit generation — 30–121 tonnes CO₂ per hectare annually, 500 hectares target.
GreenTech Foundation Bangladesh supports ICF enterprises to develop bankable business plans, pitch to investors, and access green finance from Bangladesh Bank and microfinance institutions.
Targeted incubation for women entrepreneurs — 50% female beneficiary target — providing skills training, mentoring, and market linkage for bamboo-based women-led enterprises in Cox's Bazar.
14+ implemented projects across renewable energy, bamboo incubation, green entrepreneurship, capacity building, and environmental conservation — with funding from Swiss SDC, GIZ, EU, UNDP, Bangladesh Bank, and more.
